Life in this world is sometimes just sad. God's word doesn't shy away from the hard things. The Bible is honest about the sin-sickness of this world, honest about the failures of would-be heroes. Today's passage is heavy and sad. Sick sin is committed and sinful, sick responses to sin lead to more sad results. But it's not hopeless. The sickness we see in Genesis 34 drives us to look for hope in Christ alone.
