Father Abraham had many sons. I am one of them and so are you. But how? The Lord made a promise in chapter 12 when Abram was 75 and a covenant with Abram in chapter 15. At age 86, Abram (under the direction of his wife) took matters into his own hands in chapter 16. So far Abram's only child is Ishmael and by the time we get to chapter 17, Ismael is 13 and Abram is 99. How will the Lord fulfill His promise to give Abram land and offspring that become a great nation? And how will all the families/nations of the earth be blessed through him? Today we'll see the covenant confirmed and a sign given in Genesis 17 before we turn to the New Testament to see how this passage applies to us 4000 years later.
